Plant-Based Athlete Novak Djokovic Wins Wimbledon

One of the world’s most well-known plant-based (vegan) athletes Novak Djokovic has won his sixth Wimbledon title!

In the past, Djokovic has attributed his athletic stamina and faster recovery times to his 100% plant-based diet which he has been following for about 10 years.

After going vegan, the 34-year-old Serbian tennis player felt so passionately about his new lifestyle and way of eating, that he signed on to co-produce the documentary Game Changers which showcased the health benefits of eating a plant-based diet as an athlete.

“I’m very pleased that I am plant-based and play on this level”  Djokovic told Essentially Sports.

“It’s a lifestyle. More than just a diet because you have ethical reasons as well. Being conscious of what is happening in the animal world and you know the slaughtering of animals and farming and everything.”

“There is obviously a huge impact as well on climate change that people maybe don’t talk about as much. It’s more than a performance for me, it’s a lifestyle. Something that I’m really proud of and hopefully that community grows,” he added.

Fellow athlete, Hubert Hurkacz who made it to the Wimbledon semi-finals this year is also vegan! The 24-year-old Polish tennis player has been vegan for the past 3 years and has stated in the past that he had more energy after making the switch.

It won’t be long until more and more professional athletes realise that switching to a plant-based diet gives you a competitive edge!
